National Pet Fire Safety Day is July 12th

An estimated 500,000 pets are affected annually by home fires. Nearly 1,000 are started by a pet. Here are a few tips to prevent your pet from starting a fire.

*Extinguish open flames- stoves, candles, and fire in fireplaces.

*Remove stove knobs or put a protective cover over them.

* Use flameless candles.

* Remove glass water bowl from your deck. The sun’s rays can filter thru the water and heat up/ ignite the wood on the deck. Use ceramic or stainless steel bowl.

Tips on how to keep your pet safe if a fire occurs

*Keep pets near entrances when away from home with collars on (with leash close by) in case they need to be rescued.

*Consider monitored smoke detectors.

*Affix a pet alert window cling with the number of pets you have.

We are offering free window clings at the clinic. Please stop in or grab one during your pet’s appointment.
